Picture the Valley Student Film Festival

Students throughout Fresno County showcased their best ideas through video as the “Picture the Valley Film Festival” celebrated its inaugural year. Seventy-four participants created thirty-four three minute films celebrating the rich resources that make living in our valley unique. Students responded to the question: What could America learn from the Central Valley? Responses were focused in one of four categories: Literature, Science, History/Social Studies, and Visual & Performing Arts. Teams of one to four students competed in two divisions – the Junior Division for students in grades 6-8, and the Senior Division for students in grade 9-12. On November 16th at an awards ceremony held at the Clovis Veterans Memorial Auditorium, winners in each category were announced. In addition, sweepstakes winners were selected for each division. Taking home top honors in the junior division was the team of Keely Ryan and Katie LaBarbara from Edison Computech with their video, “Farming and Ranching in the Central Valley.” In the Senior Division Henry Castenada-Martinez and Troy Blueford from Violet Heintz Education Academy won with their video “Allensworth.” Congratulations to all teams, coaches and participating schools.
