February Superintendent’s Superstar shines

Oyinloluwa “Abigial” Akande is a senior at Buchanan High School who will absolutely leave her legacy on campus after she graduates. She has been involved in many different co-curricular teams and activities on campus since her freshman year, including African American Student Union, freshmen class president, drama and Destination Imagination, just to name a few. While participating in all these co-curricular activities and teams, Abigail has been able to maintain above a 3.4 grade point average every semester, with an overall weighted grade point average of 3.68.

Abigail strives to be a pillar of change for not only her school, but her community. In her mission to change the way African American students are educated and seen in the world, Abigail has been elected to serve for various local and state-wide organizations, such as the Buchanan’s Principal Advisory Council, Clovis Unified School District’s Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, Fresno County Superintendent of School’s African American Student Advisory Cabinet and the Black Students of California United. Abigail is currently the president of the Buchanan AASU and was elected by multiple peers throughout the state to serve as the president of the Black Students of California United.

Abigail has an amazing work ethic, enthusiasm and passion for everything that she does. She is a leader who not only strives to make herself better, but those around her, as well.
