Youth Poet Laureate

Fresno County has officially named its first-ever Youth Poet Laureate, marking a powerful moment for young voices in the Central Valley. This year’s title goes to Evy Singh, a Central High sophomore whose moving poetry rose above four outstanding finalists in a historic competition years in the making.

Hosted in Downtown Fresno, the event featured inspiring performances from City of Fresno Poet Laureate Aideed Medina and California Poet Laureate Lee Herrick, setting the stage for Fresno County’s emerging literary talent. The Youth Poet Laureate program—brought to the region after a two-year effort led by Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michele Cantwell-Copher—highlights the power of poetry, storytelling, and lived experiences unique to the Central Valley.

Finalists Rajkiran Jandu, Aviana Arambula, and Aubree Anderson shared their own powerful pieces, but it was Evy’s emotional lines and personal journey that earned her the top honor. Now, she hopes to use her role to uplift young people and encourage others to speak their truth through poetry.
