Dispatch Training Trailer
A simulated 9-1-1 call sets the stage for a unique hands-on learning experience for high school students in Fresno County. In this episode of Education Matters, we take you inside a mobile dispatch training trailer designed to prepare students for careers as emergency dispatchers.
Developed by the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Regional Occupational Program, the mobile training unit partners with local agencies including the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Madera County Sheriff’s Office, and Fresno Police Department. Students receive classroom instruction and real-world simulations that replicate the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of real 9-1-1 calls.
The program serves students in Fresno, Madera, and Mariposa counties, offering 20 hours of training and a direct pathway to the Dispatcher Academy at Fresno City College. By introducing students to dispatch careers as early as 16 and 17 years old, the program helps address a growing shortage of emergency dispatchers while opening doors to meaningful public safety careers.
