It is with pleasure that we honor Sabrina Lucero, Special Day Class Teacher -- Autism in the Comprehensive Instruction Reinforcing Collaborative Learning Environments program (CIRCLE), as the October 2022 Employee of the Month.

Everything Sabrina does is “above and beyond,” with the focus on helping her students grow and advance their knowledge. Her kind and gentle demeanor makes her classroom at Roosevelt Elementary School a warm and welcoming place for the students and staff. Sabrina spends hours collaborating with her classroom aides, support staff and general education teachers to individualize work for each of her students based on their needs.

When working with students, Sabrina is patient, calm and firm, allowing them to understand what is expected. Her relationship with her students is strong and contributes to their continued growth. Her connection with parents is also amazing because she takes the time to listen to their concerns and includes them in every aspect of their child’s education and Individualized Education Program process.

Sabrina’s relationship with the general education staff allows her students to mainstream and integrate with their peers during multiple parts of their school day. She takes the time to ensure that her curriculum is similar to each of her student’s mainstream classes by collaborating with the general education teachers. When collaborating with support staff, Sabrina asks questions to understand and implement their recommendations. When you walk into her well-structured classroom, it’s obvious Sabrina has made the effort to make it warm and welcoming for students, staff and parents.

“This kind of recognition is as humbling as it is gratifying,” said Sabrina. “Thank you for acknowledging the positive attitude and dedication that I try to put into my work on a daily basis. I will continue to do my best and hope to attain even greater accomplishments for myself and for my students.”
