Employee of the Month: Students are her 'joy'

Employee of the Month: Students are her 'joy'

It is with pleasure that we honor Jamie Marrash, Special Day Class Teacher in the Special Education department, as the January 2022 Employee of the Month.

Jamie joined FCSS in 2018 as a substitute teacher. Even though she has only been an SDC Teacher since 2019, Jamie’s colleagues find her delightful to work with because she always finds the right way to connect with and teach her students.

Jamie sparkles in everything she does, no matter the adversity. The overwhelming care and genuine love she has for her students at Selma High School shows in her work with them and in conversations with her. Jamie knows her students well and always challenges them in meaningful ways, as well as celebrates every small victory. She is their biggest cheerleader!

During Individualized Education Program meetings, Jamie maintains her professionalism while clearly demonstrating her joy in working with the student and parents. Every IEP meeting is engaging because of her detailed knowledge of the student’s abilities and special qualities. Despite the extra challenge that COVID-19 closures have presented, Jamie always navigates through those challenges with an eye on solutions.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude at the honor of being selected as employee of the month,” said Jamie. “What is so amazing is that I get to do what I love. Because my students love to come to school every day, I try my very best to provide them with an education that is engaging and supports their growth as teenagers. I learn more from my students than I could ever teach them, and for this, I am blessed.”
