Ott honored as October Employee of the Month
It is with pleasure that we honor Dr. Jeran Ott, Digital Learning Coordinator in Instructional Technology Services, as the October 2021 Employee of the Month.
Jeran consistently displays many attributes that make him a role model for others within the Office of the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools. While in his role at FCSS, he has supported teachers, students and school systems, as well as many internal teams with technology expertise and creative solutions to make workflows more efficient. Jeran consistently takes a proactive stance in his solution-oriented thinking and this makes him a very valuable asset to the ITS team and beyond to the larger FCSS family.
Examples of Jeran's willingness to help in school districts include his work with Dinuba Unified. He has created custom Google sheets through coding that districts have used during summer school, regular instruction and in distance learning. This coding supports districts and teachers in ways that make it more efficient for them to capture the data that they need. This data then drives instruction and decision making as it helps administrators and teachers look at data in regard to subgroups, such as English Learner students, special education and students that may need additional support.
Jeran has also created many solutions for teachers and students within FCSS Court Schools. Jeran reviewed the strict control that the Probation Department has on technology tools and access and wanted to provide an equitable environment for marginalized students. He found a way to enable online digital resources to be accessed while in a secure and safe environment with no options to wander on the Internet. This has opened up an entire world of learning opportunities for the students and provides their teachers with many tools that they did not have access to before.
His collaboration with the Fresno Chaffee Zoo allows for online learning experiences for students who cannot make the physical trip to the zoo. Jeran also has many Chrome Browser extensions and add-ons available for purchase in the Google Play store. He has made many of these available for free to educators in Fresno County as a way to support local educators.
