Students build their imagination at LEGO competition

Fresno County Office of Education hosted its first Junior FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League event in this area on Saturday, April 5 at Fremont Elementary School in Fowler. The “Disaster Blaster” event targeted students ages 6 to 9 with the goal to develop science, technology, engineering and math skills, creativity and critical thinking, which will prepare them for future robotics competitions.

Eleven teams participated, with a total of 70 students from the following districts: Washington Unified, Fresno Unified and Fowler Unified, as well as two independent teams. Every student received a medal for participation and each team had the opportunity to win prizes.

The winners are:

Most Creative Award -- Lego Warriors from Spring Valley Elementary

Best Team Work Award -- Lego Ninjas from Stradford Elementary in San Jose

Best Overall Award -- Super Lego Warriors from Lowell Elementary
