September Superintendent’s Superstars shine

On Thursday, April 4, 2019, members of the Kepler Neighborhood School volleyball team helped save a woman who was possibly suicidal as they talked her out of jumping from the Tuolumne Street Bridge in downtown Fresno. The team was out jogging during their practice when they noticed the woman dangling from about 100 feet in the air from the bridge located one block from the school.

While Coach Elliott Murray was on the phone with 9-1-1 reporting the incident, players began pleading and yelling for the woman to pull herself up. Soon after the police arrived and officers helped her off the bridge. Coach Murray believes his team’s words of encouragement kept the woman from letting go.

“A miracle happened! Our scholars were part of saving a life,” said Murray. “We pour our hearts into the lives of these kids every day and they stepped up in a way they’ll never forget. I’m so proud of them.”
