Celebrating the November Superintendent’s Superstar

Hayden Tarr, a senior at Sierra High School, is a member of Future Farmers of America, exhibits at the Big Fresno Fair and participates in the livestock auction. Last year at the fair, Hayden was awarded the Supreme Grand Champion and Reserve Supreme Grand Champion for his two market hogs. Listening to his philanthropic heart, Hayden decided this year to donate the sale of one of his hogs to the Central Valley Honor Flight. He rallied support from buyers and fellow exhibitors, raising $40,000 to benefit the program.

The Honor Flight organization is dear to Hayden because he had two great-grandfathers fight in WWII, two great-uncles fight in Vietnam and a surrogate grandfather who is a Vietnam veteran. He was a companion on the April Honor Flight and accompanied a Korean War Veteran to Washington, D.C.

Hayden is doing his senior project with Honor Flight/Veteran’s Issues. The project is still in development, but has opened up wonderful opportunities for Hayden and fueled his desire to do more for veterans. Along with his academics, Hayden plays water polo and swims for his school and is very involved in the Associated Student Body. Upon graduation he plans to attend Clovis Community College before transferring to achieve his career goal of becoming a traveling nurse.
